A dental crown is a hollow, tooth-like cap that is permanently cemented over your natural tooth. They are used on teeth that are severely worn, broken, or decayed. Sometimes a tooth can be restored with veneers or Lumineers, but if the damage extends past the front of the tooth, your best option might be a dental crown.
In order to place the crown, dental enamel is removed so that the crown can fit comfortably over the altered tooth. This is also done to ensure there is no negative change in your bite. Dental crowns can be applied alongside veneers or bridges for a full smile makeover.
