Implants are commonly installed in either a single-stage or double-stage process. In the double-stage procedure, a titanium root is surgically placed inside of the jaw and then given several weeks or months to fuse properly with the jawbone. Then, a second procedure finishes the implant with a crown.
In the single-stage procedure, the doctor will concentrate on leaving the implant abutment exposed in the gum. To facilitate this, the doctor will use a subperiosteal implant, because this implant can sit on the jawbone within the gum tissue.
Some patients lack sufficient bone depth to accommodate implants. They also may not wish to undergo bone grafting. These patients are ideal candidates for subperiosteal implants, which require less of a floor than regular endosteal implants, or those implants placed directly in the jawbone.
Occasionally you may hear dental implants compared on the basis of size. Standard implants are smaller and less obtrusive, and they are typically routed toward the front of the mouth. In contrast, wide implants are typically routed toward the back of the mouth. There are also mini implants, recommended by our expert in dental implants in Burbank for those patients with insufficient space between tooth roots.
