How CAD/CAM Works
The creation of restorations through CAD/CAM starts with using a scanning instrument to photograph the mouth. The images resulting from this process are sent to an office computer, where the design can be viewed and edited by our San Francisco dentist. Finally, the design is sent to our CAD/CAM milling machine, which carves the desired restoration out of a block of porcelain or other material.
Precision and Convenience
CAD/CAM machines offer precision beyond what is possible with conventional production of restorations by hand. As a result, the CAD/CAM restorations tend to look, feel, and perform better. Furthermore, the entire process can be done in one short appointment, so patients do not have to wait weeks for their results.
Many patients are candidates for CAD/CAM restorations, but our dentist may recommend conventional restorations for some patients after performing an exam. Patients can schedule a consultation to learn more about this technology and its advantages.
