TMJ is short for temporomandibular joint, of which there are two—one on each side of your face. These joints control all movement by the jaw, including how far the mouth opens, how well food gets chewed, and even your breathing style. Some degree of TMJ can be genetic—if you have some kind of maxillofacial irregularity, for example. Other times, arthritis invades the jaw and makes it erratic, or almost literally rusty.
If you have TMJ, you may hear clicking sounds in your jaw, or have difficulty swallowing. You may have a constant ringing in your ears, suffer from morning headaches and yes, have increased sinus pressure. Doctors still do not fully know how all these symptoms connect. But if you are experiencing sinus pain or abnormality that coincides with any of the other symptoms discussed here, then you should book an appointment with our expert in TMJ in Los Angeles.
