Our office is pleased to offer you the option of dental sedation. Often, a light level of sedation is all a patient needs to relax during their treatment. We have four different sedation levels to help you through your visit.
• Minimal Sedation- This level of sedation is often all a patient needs to be anxiety-free during their visit. You are still conscious and may or may not remember your procedure, but the sense of fear is not lingering.
• Moderate Sedation – Frequently, this level is known as ‘conscious sedation’ because you are still technically conscious, but in a very relaxed state. During this sedation, our patients often fall asleep and remember nearly nothing about the procedure.
• Deep Sedation – In this level of sedation you are very close to unconsciousness. However, you wake easily.
• General Anesthesia- We reserve this level of sedation for oral surgery cases where it is in your best interest to be entirely unconscious.
There are four methods we use to sedate patients.
• Oral Sedation-For this sedation, you receive the drug Halcion or a similar sedative, in pill form. The medication begins to work in about an hour, and you will feel relaxed and sleepy.
• Iv Sedation- The sedation medication enters your body via your vein from an intravenous line. The IV sedation is fast acting, yet it is easy to wake you.
• General Anesthesia- Your will be entirely unconscious and wake after the anesthesia wears off.
