Brushing Twice Daily
• Hold your toothbrush at a 45 degree angle from the teeth. This means that the brush should not be directly parallel with the teeth. Specifically, it should be half way between parallel and perpendicular.
• When brushing, gently move the brush back and fourth in small, tooth-wide strokes. Do not push too hard, as this can do more damage than good.
• Spend about 30 seconds in each quadrant of the mouth (top left half, bottom left half, etc.), making sure to brush the inside, the outside, and the chewing side of each tooth.
Flossing Once A Day
• Use about 18 inches of floss each time you floss. The twine is exceptionally long and inexpensive, so use it.
• When you insert the floss between two teeth, bend it around one of them, and move it up and down. Then move to the other, and do the same. There are small gaps between the teeth, so doing this ensures you properly clean both sides.
Using an antimicrobial or fluoride mouthwash afterward for thirty second or so will then help wash it all away. At a minimum, rinse your mouth with water.
